Winner 2005 Sir John Sulman Award for Public and Commercial Buildings
NSW Royal Australian Institute of Architects
Winner 2005 National Trust Heritage Awards for Adaptive Reuse - Corporate/Government building
In June 2003, St Hilliers commenced construction on the adaptive reuse of heritage industrial buildings behind The Mint Offices in Macquarie Street, Sydney, for the new head office of the Historic Houses Trust of NSW.
The historic structures were part of the original working buildings of The Mint, which were prefabricated in London in 1853 and shipped to the NSW colony and assembled in 1854. The buildings had been adapted and re-used for many purposes in their 150 years history.
The project involved restoration of the buildings and construction of new contemporary facilities including offices, theatrette and a function centre.
St Hilliers worked closely with the architects to deliver this project, which combines the best in building conservation and contemporary architecture.
