10 August 2004

St Hilliers has been appointed Preferred Contractor for the construction of Coles Myer Ltd‚Äö?Ñ?¥s new town centre retail development, "The G" at Gungahlin in Canberra.

The $28 million mixed-use shopping centre and commercial office development is located at Hibberson Street, Gungahlin. Construction will commence in early August and is scheduled for completion in late 2005.

Group Managing Director, Tim Casey said St Hilliers is well positioned to deliver the CML Gungahlin Shopping Centre.

"As an active building contractor in the Australian Capital Territory since 1998, St Hilliers has successfully delivered many projects and has good relationships and an understanding of issues relating to the supply and demand of local resources that may impact on construction," he said.

"We also have extensive experience in the construction, fitout and refurbishment of major supermarkets and specialty retail projects."

The scope of works for the new shopping centre involves the construction of a modern, mixed-use development comprising of a 4,000 square metres Coles supermarket and Liquorland, 30 specialty retail shops, 3,600 sq m of commercial office space and a 10,600 square metres basement car park.

St Hilliers successfully won the project against other major contractors including Bovis Lend Lease and Baulderstone. The CML Gungahlin Shopping Centre will be the second major retail facility constructed by St Hilliers, which has an association with Coles Myer. St Hilliers late last year completed the development of a $36 million, 12,000 square metre bulky goods retail facility in Alexandria, South Sydney, the major tenant of which was Megamart.

St Hilliers current and completed ACT projects include the $65 million Gateway development project of 167 dwellings, a Joint Venture with the Land Development Agency, which was the first stage of the Kingston Foreshore residential development, and the award winning Stage 3 refurbishment of the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club.
